Pi is not equal to 22/7. Know why?

Pi is not equal to 22/7.

Since our childhood we know Pi(𝝿) is equal to 22/7. But no, Pi(𝝿) is not exactly equal to 22/7.
In this post we know the value of 𝝿 and why it is not equal to 22/7.

Definition of Pi(𝝿):

Pi is defined in many ways. Most popular definition is as following:
Pi(𝝿) is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Pi is the ratio of Cirtumference of a circle to the diameter of that circle.

Mathematically, it is proved that Pi is an irrational number. So, being an irrational number the following conclusions are made.

  1. Pi can not be expressed as a fraction.
  2. The decimal value of Pi(𝝿) is Non-Terminating and Non-Repeating.

So, according to Conclusion(i) we can say Pi(𝝿) can not be exactly equal to 22/7.

Since the decimal value of Pi is Non-Terminating and Non-Repeating (i.e. value of Pi is never ending), Mathematician had tried to find as many decimal places as possible.
It was complex and time consuming but after invention of Calculus and Computer, it becomes easy.
Now, Pi(𝝿) can be expressed to many trillions of decimal places.

Value of pi is not exactly equal to 22/7. 22/7 is equal to 3.1428.... but pi is equal to 3.141592...

So, from the above it is clear that value of Pi is not exactly equal to 22/7. But, for daily uses where much more accuracy is not needed, we use Pi(𝝿) as 22/7 for the sake of convenience in calculation.
